Austin, TX, August 8, 2003 - Illustrating that it is safe to participate in large events in Toronto, the Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals - Ontario Chapter, is holding their annual social meeting downtown at the Toronto SkyDome during the upcoming Seattle vs. Blue Jays baseball game. The event, to be held August 21, is open to both members and nonmembers of the association.
Over the past seven months, Toronto tourism has been decimated by bad press over SARS. Facts provided by the World Health Organization and the Atlanta Center for Disease Control indicate travelers to Toronto should not be concerned about SARS, but times are still challenging for the hospitality industry there.
"Tourism is coming back very, very slowly from its recent troubles," said Iain Robertson, CHAE, controller of the Kingbridge Centre, and one of the organizers of the event. "Toronto is open for business and our chapter members are doing their small part to get the word out and say it is okay to mingle with the crowds."
The social event will be preceded by remarks from Frank Wolfe, executive vice president/CEO of HFTP International. "Our Ontario Chapter is 29 years old and one of our most active chapters. They have made a number of contributions to the hospitality and tourism industry during their existence and continue to do so," said Wolfe. "I am happy to participate in the event and have no reservations about visiting Toronto. HFTP had one of our highest ever attended conferences in Toronto three years ago and I am sure we will be back again in the future."
