The recognized need for a person to exhibit professional dedication to the industry, prompted the development of two
certification programs Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive and Certified Hospitality Technology Professional.
The CHAE program started in 1979, and the first four CHAEs earned their designation in 1981. Since then, over 1,300 people have earned
the designation. The CHTP designation was established in 1994, when 13 individuals earned the designation after taking the first exam.
The promotion of the designations has always been done through advertisements in industry and association publications, and through word-of-mouth among industry professionals. Those who have earned the designation are also recognized in association publications, as well as at association-sponsored conferences.
HFTP international office maintains the records of individuals who have earned the designation. It also coordinates the CHAE/CHTP reviews and examinations, which usually take place at HFTP international, regional or chapter-organized events. Only qualified HFTP members may sit for the CHAE and CHTP examinations.
